Definition of 'Hooks-and-Lines'

Longlines consist of a main line having many shorter lines with baited hooks attached to it. Different line and hook types are used depending on the target species. Longlines may be set at variable depths. Trolling uses towed lines with hooks that may have lures or bait. Handlines, such as those used for squid jigging, are vertically weighted lines with bait or lures to attract fish which are then hauled up to a boat when caught. Pole lines are the principal gear types used by recreational fishermen.
