Definition of 'Surrounding nets'

Purse seine nets capture a school of fish by encircling it, then closing off the bottom of the net using a “purse cable”, and finally hauling in the catch. (They may be set from a boat or along the beach.) Lamparas are seine nets shaped like a sling and lack the purse cables of a purse seine net. They are used for shallow-water baitfish. Beach seine nets are set along the coast and hauled in from the shore.
